Lieberman: 100 Years of Fine Linens

How does LT remain at the top of the linen industry?

Selecting the right linen supplier for your business is just as important as selecting the right linen collection. Your linen supplier will become a critical cog in your operations, providing you with insight, guidance, and ultimately, a product that satisfies your needs and those of your customers. How do you find the right linen supplier? Searching for “wholesale linens” will likely leave you with a slew of wholesale suppliers located across the globe or promising much higher quality than they can actually deliver.

At Lieberman Tranchemontagne inc., our extensive expertise and exceptional service is rooted in our century-old history as a supplier for the hospitality and transportation industries. LT is reputed as a pioneer in hospitality products in Canada and has built its reputation through a tradition of quality and exceptional reliability.

We are proud of our Canadian heritage and family values

Our history begins 130 years ago, in 1892, when very few textile manufacturers existed in Canada. Charles-Xavier Tranchemontagne opened a modest import business of woolen material and cloth in Old Montreal, under the name C.X. Tranchemontagne & Cie Ltée. –  the very first francophone business to import fabrics into North America. It wasn’t long until the business began to take off, mainly due to Mr. Tranchemontagne’s reputation of remarkable professionalism.

In the 1940s, another textile company emerged alongside C.X. Tranchemontagne. Founded by the Lieberman Family, Les Toiles Lieberman specialized in the import, distribution, and manufacturing of hospitality products. Respected and praised within the hospitality industry, the name Lieberman became synonymous with quality and longevity.

In 1979, Les Toiles Lieberman was sold to Mr. André L’Africain. Seeing the opportunity to better serve customers, Mr. L’Africain then bought C. X. Tranchemontagne & Cie, and merged the two family-owned and operated businesses, creating Lieberman Tranchemontagne. Proud to be at the helm of LT, a company steeped in a century of Canadian history, Mr. L’Africain vowed to honor the namesakes of the Lieberman and Tranchemontagne families and their core values of quality and reliability. Soon after, Mr. L’Africain opened an impressive new office space in Montreal’s Saint-Laurent neighborhood, which has allowed the company to flourish. In 2019, Mr. L’Africain passed the reins of the company to his son, Marc-André L’Africain, who has maintained this value system that has come to be revered at LT.

We maintain impeccable relationships with our suppliers

Our century-old history means that we have developed a close relationship with our carefully selected partners. Like any manufacturing company, we rely on suppliers for a wide range of materials and services that allow us to succeed. The difference is that most other companies invest surprisingly little into these relationships and are all about cutting costs. We have a different view. We believe that suppliers and our relationships with them are critical to maintaining our long-standing reputation for top quality linens. We invest time into fostering these relationships so that we can grow together.

Our long-standing relationships with suppliers across the globe allow us to produce only the best products for our customers. Our close communication network creates transparency on both sides of the channel, which is a critical consideration in the linen manufacturing process. Transparency assures that we can trust our suppliers’ certifications, approve the raw materials and processes used to create our products, and inspect our goods before shipment. This ensures we receive and sell only the best products available on the market.

We hold the best Product knowledge in the industry

We’ve all heard the saying “knowledge is power”. This is especially true when it comes to the hospitality industry. In order to best serve our customers, it is essential to maintain a strong understanding of the products and services available on the market, and more importantly, precisely how those products benefit our customers.

At LT, our highly knowledgeable and experienced team prides itself on knowing the ins and outs of the hospitality industry so that we can guide our customers and ensure they are purchasing the right products for their business needs. Many members of our team have been with the company for decades, creating a family operation devoted to integrity and excellence.

We manufacture our own products

When you buy from LT, you benefit from the advantages that come with buying directly from the manufacturer. LT operates as both the manufacturer and the distributor of our luxury linens and products, which means that our customers buy directly from us, rather than an agent or middleman.

Lower Costs

Using an intermediary distributor inflates prices due to expenses associated with transport, storage, personnel, etc. Eliminating the middleman means completely eliminating the costs associated with this middle step. These savings are then shared between the customer and the manufacturer – a win-win!

Enhanced Communication

When you buy from the manufacturer, you have a direct line of communication, which provides many advantages. Fewer individuals involved often means a simplified and more efficient purchasing experience, enhanced customer service, and more informative purchasing guidance. The manufacturer has the most expertise in their product and can provide recommendations, discuss modifications and address any issues.   Finally, it allows the customer to build a close relationship with the point of contact, which is advantageous to both parties.

Improved Quality Management

With a third-party distributor, manufacturers are forced to give up some control and oversight of the product. The more individuals involved in handling the product, the more potential for quality issues and delays during transport. Lead times are often more reliable when buying direct which means customers receive the right products at the right time and in good condition.

We care about environmental and social responsibility

We do our very best to make our planet better. This means ensuring that our manufacturing plants and products adhere to the most rigorous standards and obtain the highest certifications in the industry. Many of our products are certified Oeko-Tex Standard 100, the world’s leading certification for textiles. The Oeko-Tex label certifies that every component of the product, from the fabric to the thread and accessories, has been rigorously tested against a list of up to 350 toxic chemicals.

Further, we ensure that all of our workplaces are members of amfori, the leading global business association for open and sustainable trade. We are proud to be amfori members, championing sustainable practices, decent working conditions, and responsible consumption and production, with the aim of improving the industry standard.

While there are many linens and linen suppliers to choose from, selecting LT is a decision you can make with confidence. Our knowledgeable, experienced, and reliable team will work with you to meet your unique needs. We are passionate about what we do, and we look forward to serving you.
